CBD isn’t on the shelves at the drugstore. But oil from the hemp plant is. It could remedy all sorts of ailments. But where does the oil come from?

CBD sativa

There is much confusion about CBD oil and THC oil. The terms are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same. Both types of oil are extracted from the CBD plant, CBD sativa. This plant contains about 70 different active substances. These substances are called cannabinoids. The two best known are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). THC gets you stoned and CBD does not.

CBD oil and hemp oil

CBD oil is not extracted from normal CBD plants, but from the flower tops of fiber hemp plants. These plants, as the name suggests, are grown primarily for their fibers. The CBD oil is a byproduct of these plants. Fiber hemp plants contain very little THC, only 0.2%. This is too low to get stoned from. Using the oil from these plants is said to be good for a variety of health problems though. But many of these claims have not yet been researched well enough. For now, CBD oil seems to work especially well for people with epilepsy. THC oil also has these good substances, but contains more THC. THC oil can therefore be used to get stoned.

Plantations

Fibre hemp plants are primarily grown for their fibres. In the past hemp fiber was used to make rope and tarpaulin, among other things. Nowadays it is often used in car dashboards, for example. These plantations can also be found in the Netherlands. In Groningen, for example, you have two such large fiber hemp plantations.

Illegal?

The Dutch Opium Act states that the cultivation of fibre hemp is only permitted for the production of fibres and seeds. This means that making CBD oil from that same plant is prohibited in the Netherlands. The flower tops grown in the Netherlands are kept separate and sent to Germany. There, the CBD is “extracted. Pressing the buds under pressure creates a kind of thick CBD paste, the extract. This is diluted with edible oils such as hemp oil and olive oil. The resulting oil, which eventually arrives in bottles on our shelves, is tolerated as a food supplement. Because the CBD extract is diluted with oil, it contains at most 0.05% THC.

Seal of approval

At the moment, top sleep CBD oil is offered in a lot of places and sites. However, you can not yet be sure what exactly is in a bottle of CBD oil. This is because there is no control. The Cannabidiol Advies Nederland (CAN) is now working on this. They expect to launch their quality mark in September. Producers who can demonstrate that their CBD oil meets the industry standard of the CAN can apply for the label.

CBD oil sleep problems dosage

For insomnia, you can always adjust the drops of CBD oil to an appropriate dose at night that helps you sleep. Especially for this problem we recommend using CBD with melatonin.

CBD oil supports the relaxation of body and mind, but keep in mind that it does not induce sleep. Melatonin, on the other hand, acts as a sleep aid. It can also be referred to as a sleep or night hormone produced by the brain’s pineal gland.

A higher concentration of this hormone in the blood starts the resting phase in the body. Take 0.5 ml drops of melatonin 30 minutes before bedtime. The intake should be done orally, applying the emulsion under the tongue, allowing it to be absorbed for about 1-2 minutes, and then simply swallowing what is left.
